Several of my friends, in the vernacular of my new country, have sent me messages — texts*, emails, an occasional phone call, and even one letter — asking “whassup with you, man? we haven’t seen you around.” By “around” they some times mean “around the wordpress space,” and other times mean the neighborhood bar, where I do still show up, though more rarely, and always for a glass of ice water … no need to go into the whys of that one. It is the one thing I share with our past president.
Anyway. The raison d’absence has been the software project. It has been intense beyond belief, but is finally coming to a close. We made the final commit to the repository on Friday, and this weekend, for the first time, I had time to pursue other interests. Playing the piano for hours, writing letters, and, well, this may be coping with withdrawal, working on a small software project with a friend of mine. It won’t be a big money maker, but it is great fun. Just a little app to produce “kinetic art” using simple algorithms that we have been playing around with. On the left is a screen shot, which you should think of as one frame in a movie.
The user can just start the app and watch what happens, or can get involved in twisting knobs to change the settings and control the nature of the “film” produced. It has been a fun project, which combines art, mathematics, and writing code. All is art, of course:-)
Speaking of movies, my friend’s son has shifted interest from mathematics to filmmaking. Here is his first post to YouTube:
Well I hope to be leading a more balanced life henceforth, and spending a bit more time writing and posting.
